× “As musician-inventors and musician-travellers, we endlessly replay our utopias, with Babel as backdrop.”

Constantinople is the story of a musical ensemble that chose the journey as its cornerstone; drawing inspiration from the ancient trailblazing city illuminating East and West, the ensemble, was conceived as a forum for encounters and cross-fertilization by Kiya and Ziya Tabassian, who grew up in Teheran.

Kiya plays setar, sings and composes, Ziya plays the tombak and other percussive instruments and Pierre-Yves Martel rounds out the sound with a viola da gamba. Steeped in the classical Persian traditions, they have used their virtuosity and creativity to open up and reinvent the heritage of their native land.

“Exquisite […] Constantinople presented a convincing evening of exquisite music-making.” — Vancouver Sun, Canada
